"… the socialization of boys regarding masculinity is often at the expense of women. I came to realize that we don’t raise boys to be men, we raise them not to be women (or gay men). We teach boys that girls and women are “less than” and that leads to violence by some and silence by many. It’s important for men to stand up to not only stop men’s violence against women but, to teach young men a broader definition of masculinity that includes being empathetic, loving and non-violent."— Don McPherson, former NFL quarterback, feminist and educator (via howtodresswell)

In Hindsight pt.2After moving back (home, last place I’ve lived before college, (Army Brat) circa ‘10, I made some new friends with an awesome gal that runs a record store and a cool cat that likes to make promo videos. I guess you can call this an EPK of sorts. If it wasn’t for djing I would have found a rock and curled under it. Augusta is not the most inspiring place for any one with a “go getter” attitude. The town is more of a resting place and for starting a family of 12. The combination of the piss poor air quality of the CSRA and being terribly unsatisfied and unhappy with my surroundings, it showed in my complexion (which makes me cringe a bit). I hope to one day return with opportunities to share for those that have the same love/unfulfilled relationship with the AUG. I still show love because my parents still live in the sticks and overall music history (plug James Brown) I’ll be approaching my second year in Atlanta and know that the best is quickly approaching for I’ve meet up with some cool folks here too. Let’s shine! Yes, a change is gonna come and you gonna learn today! |
In Hindsight pt.1They say you have to know where you’ve been before you know where you are going. Reviewing some old videos of me and wanted to share. This video in particular is me freshly “post grad” conducting a lecture at a friend’s Hip-Hop in America humanities class about djing. This piece is circa 2009, a month after walking off the stage into what the “experts” would call an economic crisis where a degree was merely a fancy piece of paper with your name in calligraphy and a sweet letter from your Alma Mater reminding you to donate cash you are wondering even exists. |
